Published as part of #MakingSenseOfEU, the IEE-ULB‘s podcast series, the 7 episodes of REd-SPINEL’s first Podcast season explore some of the project’s initial findings on the mounting #Dissensus facing EU liberal democracy and the Rule of law.

In the opening episode entitled ‘Is liberal democracy in danger? A new EU research project looks for answers‘ Maria-Isabel Soldevila (ULB, CIVIS) interviews the project’s principal investigator Professor Ramona Coman (IEE-ULB/SciencePoULB) to help grasp its research agenda, notably its central research questions on #Dissensus.

In the 3rd episode entitled ‘Making Sense of Economic Governance in a Context of Dissensus‘ Professors Amandine Crespy (IEE-ULB/SciencePoULB) and Thomas Christiansen (LUISS) explore how the policies surrounding economic governance in the European Union can fuel #Dissensus.

The 4th episode entitled ‘Making Sense of Conditionality, EU Governance, and Dissensus‘ tries to make sense of conditionality and its use in EU governance. In particular, professors Marta Simoncini (LUISS) and Cristina Fasone (LUISS) unpack how conditionality plays out and feeds #Dissensus within the EU.

The podcast’s 6th episode on ‘Making Sense of Collective Research on Dissensus and Democracies in the run-up to the European Elections‘ also involves two Horizon Europe projects researching the prospects of European Liberal Democracy and the Rule of Law. Professors Zolt Enyedi (CEU) from AUTHLIB and Professor Ramona Coman (IEE-ULB/SciencePoULB) from RED-SPINEL share some initial findings of their respective collective research projects while also looking forward to their implications for the 2024 European Parliamentary Elections.

The 7th and final episode on ‘Making sense of the EU’s Supranational Instruments‘ involves Professors Daniel R. Kelemen (Georgetown University) and Ramona Coman (IEE-ULB/SciencePoULB). It introduces an extra-European point of view, while further homing in on how EU institutions have fared in the face of ever-increasing #Dissensus.
