Capacity-building promoting democratic deliberation and problem-solving

Work package 6 will develop a set of original training sessions and toolkits aimed at supporting European citizens and policymakers. In response to the project’s third objective to contribute to strengthening democratic institutions in Europe, WP6 will mobilise both the unique set of resources that it brings together and the original findings on dissensus that it will produce to yield a ‘dedicated training strategy’

WP6 will organise debates on fundamental rights violations in Europe. These debates have been set up to inspire counter-discourses and resistance to anti-liberal actors of dissensus. RED-SPINEL’s unique scope will allow it to deploy this training strategy across several Member States to contribute towards improved prospects for liberal democracy across the EU. As a consequence of its chosen analytical focus on dissensus, the training sessions provided will focus on how best to answer this dissensus through bridge-building and shared problem-solving efforts.

Targeted trained audience

WP6 will target its four non-academic audiences:

  1. legal practitioners in different Member States (BE, HU, NL, PL) to provide legal capacity-building via training through teaching in the field of strategic litigation;
  2. high school and university students in different Member States (NL, IT, PL) to foster youth engagement on issues of democracy via online teaching materials in a range of languages aimed at strengthening training through teaching;

Member States policymakers, EU officials and civil society actors to strengthen civic leadership and awareness through both executive leadership programmes and a structured forecasting exercise on the future prospects for liberal democracy in Europe
