Short bio |
Balázs Gaál is an assistant advocacy officer at the Hungarian Helsinki Committee. He is involved in the HHC’s work to provide information for international partners concerning international protection and the rule of law in Hungary. The HHC promotes democratic norms and universal human rights in a shrinking civil space. Over the past decade challengers of human rights and the rule of law in Hungary have become ever more institutionally embedded and vocal. Political endeavors to eradicate a safe habitat for civil actors have intensified and the situation for human rights has severely deteriorated. Recognizing this, he has specialized in researching innovative strategies and good practices of human rights defending organizations experiencing illiberal transition in Europe with an aim to channel experiences of the civil society into academic discourse.
